My Greatest Hurdle - Overcoming a Life Choice

About Me

I was a single mom who chose to focus on my child's success over my own.

The Root for Scattered Skills and Lack of Fortune 500 Experience

I worked for small employers in low paying jobs that offered stability, but no educational benefits and no growth opportunity so I might bring my daughter to work after school and during vacations to limit her exposure to the peer pressure of drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. I achieved my goal.

Always Seeking Growth

I am goal driven, tenacious, held a 3.5 GPA while studying chemistry and caring for a toddler, and have been allowed the opportunity to refine leadership skills and develop expertise in the work place. Despite huge limitations I explored and am self-taught in a variety of technologies that can be refined and quickly expanded. However, exposure to certain technologies have been outside of my reach. I continue to require opportunity.

What Happened in 2010?!

My daughter grew up. My employer died. And, the United States entered a serious recession. I began exploring any and every avenue available to locate viable future employment. With little savings, no income, and while losing my home, I began to pursue a career in medicine. Unfortunately, completing a sonography certificate requires students work no more than 20 hours a week. An EMT certification program is 12 weeks and relatively inexpensive. I completed it hoping employment would be immediate. It wasn't. And, so on….but, I never gave up and never stopped trying.

Why IT Project Management in 2015?

I was recognized by Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte NC, as having potential and experience, and became eligible for the offering of a leg up during the recession through a technology program focused on assisting individuals who were underemployed and had a need to re-career. A federal grant paid for coursework and CompTIA Project + and ITIL certifications. I and others are success stories for the program, benefiting from hard won opportunities garnered through the interest of partner local area businesses.

Technology, problem solving, and the use of organizational skills are my interests and proven capabilities. I am excited to have added more education to my core, and very pleased AmWINS provided the environment needed to implement my refined skill set with practical application.
